Editing Day 1:

Hi Cambridge! As you know, this week I began editing! I don't think I'm the best editor but I'm decent which is all that matters! The only previous editing experience I have is from our AICE Media class projects! So, if I don't know how to do something, I will search up a tutorial.

I started off by first uploading all the videos from my phone onto a google drive folder.

Next, I uploaded all of my clips onto Clip Champ and put them into the correct order using my storyboard. In total, counting the blooper scenes, I had 7:21 minutes' worth of footage.

After cutting out the bloopers, I had 3:10 mins. So, now I could see my job for today was to get it to 2 minutes while still keeping the important things to convey my story.

Here's a time lapse of me editing and cutting down the clips:

I was able to cut it down to 2:06 minutes which is right where I want to be! I can't believe I was worried about not having enough clips.

Now, it was time for me to add all of my sounds! I uploaded all the sounds I collected (previous blog post) and got to work! This part is difficult as I have to synchronize the sound clips for some scenes like the voicemail. I went through each clip and either muted the entire audio or spliced (an editing vocab word I learned today!) it together while adding in the foley where it was needed.

Then, my last step for audio was to add in my punk music! I had a major mishap here because I added the music to the same line as the other audios and it pushed them all to the end. It was super annoying because I had to reedit and synch all the sounds again.

Another setback I had was seeing my music didn't fit the opening. I know I wanted to use punk music, but it needed to be softer and wasn't correlating to the tone created in the visuals. So, my new audio is linked below.

It has more of a 2000's feel and overall just works with my scenes better.

Here's a time lapse of me adding/removing the sounds:

All in all, I'm super happy with my progress! We only have 2 weeks left; I'm almost completed with my film opening! Stay tuned for part 2 of editing where I add in the credits!
